Roadkiller x Phillipa Tank
Roadkiller is the vision of rock-gypsy Phillipa Tank through the filter of the vibrancy of Philadelphia's punk scene. I had a chat with the frontwoman in the lead up to launch:
If Roadkiller was a drink, what would it be?
A Citywide (a beer and a shot)
Where in the world do you hope to do well, and where in the world do you think you'll do best?
I'd love to do well everywhere really, but probably Europe, they're super into cheesy metal.
If Roadkiller had a mother, what would she bring to the PTA meeting as refreshments?
Xanax and birth control
When I hear Night Rider, I think of 2 pop cultural references: Hasselhoff and Mad Max 1. Who's the best ambassador for Roadkiller?
Haha, don't hassle the hoff! Ooh, I'd have to say Mad Max 1 because I don't think Roadkiller would fit anywhere in Baywatch...
The album (title) is really strong with loads of potential singles. If we hadn't heard it, which song would you say best represents it?
Probably Night Rider
You have some high-profile drummers on this album. Why so many?
The concept was to write different types of songs and pitch them to drummers to suit their styles of drumming. One reason for this was to push myself to write in different genres. Another was because I wanted to get to meet and work with these cool established drummers. And the result of all of this is that I have sick drumming on my record as well as getting to steal everyone's cred.
Roadkiller's debut album Pick of the Litter drops 25th May, a masterful fusion of the best aspects of edgier genres - an album that must be heard to be believed!
