Bridge Dog x Standard Issue

Bridge Dog

Standard Issue is our take on the old 70s/80s Korean folk ballads that our parents grew up with but done in the dreamy, shoegazey style that we love - Shin Joong Hyun meets Alvvays.

Leaving aside some fairly distinct derivatives - what song doesn’t have some…right?

Critiquing the song on its own merits, it’s a gem. Production sounds a bit budgeted where some finessing in mastering or a more warm sounding studio would have done it greater justice, but the explosive ear-candy of the choruses sustains it regardless. Beautiful approach to the vocals (though arguably the most “familiar” aspect of an otherwise standard issue dream pop song *pun intended)

Nothing about this gorgeous ride was irksome, with every change and chord choice in exquisite appropriation.

Struggling to hear the lyricist is an established feature of this genre, and making the effort to glean a few of the sentences didn’t go without reward.

A band, I’m sure, much better live than recorded, but again a gem regardless.

Bridge Dog’s single ‘Standard Issue’ available 12 April 2024
